Our journey began in 1877 when our progenitors re-opened the ancient quarries on the northern side of Mount Penteli. By 1897, we expanded our operations with a new quarry on the island of Tinos, birthing the vision of gradually re-opening all of Greece's ancient quarries.
Shortly after, our company was listed on the London Stock Exchange as Marmor, raising funds to explore marble reserves in Greece and develop the necessary infrastructure to re-operate the country’s historic marble sites. We opened quarries in Dokos, Alonissos, Paros, Larissa, Mani, Naxos, Skyros, Volos, and Attica.
In the later part of the 20th century, Dionyssosmarble was established and expanded internationally, opening quarries in Bulgaria and Finland.
Today, we uphold a rich legacy in marble, proudly standing as the sole producer of Pentelic marble—the very stone the ancient Athenians used to lay the foundations of democracy and sculpt the marvels of the Golden Age of Pericles.
The Story
Our vision is to continue supplying Greece and the world with the renowned Pentelic Marble, preserving the rich marble tradition of our country; and to do so in the most sustainable way possible. We are dedicated to keeping the memories of this tradition alive by supporting the arts and the community. We proudly donate to sculptors and local organizations, welcome visitors to our quarries, and have established the Open Museum of Quarrying Art, at our old quarry of Aloula, in the North Side of Mount Penteli. Through these efforts, we aim to celebrate and perpetuate the timeless legacy of Greek marble craftsmanship.
